Workers of the world, unite!...for a couple hours anyway, with a refreshing adult beverage. Nerd out with a “flash tour” or two at the Chicago History Museum’s newest brain child, the HISTORY HAPPY HOUR!
Launched this past week and planned as a monthly event, one (21 years and older only) can enjoy a drink provided by a rotating local partner. Participants can take a short walk through one of the featured exhibits or go on a DIY-type adventure where one artifact from the “Chicago: Crossroads of America” permanent exhibit is voted on and included in the tour.
A simple handout with timetable and choice of activities at check-in provides just enough guidance with a comfortable flexibility for anyone to enjoy themselves, either with a tour group or simply relaxing with a drink and a friend. There were two options for pre-planned walks through some exhibits, one of which was “Chicago’s Playboy Past” to look at some of the collected items of Hugh Heffner. The other was the “Make It Rain” tour with the museum’s costume curator and perusing the stuff and story of the city’s trend-setters. In addition to the tourist-selected tour mentioned above, the museum’s chief historian led a tour of his own choosing.
The HISTORY HAPPY HOUR is a unique opportunity to wind down early in the work week and enjoy Chicago’s treasured past.
