Writers Theatre, known to Chicago audiences for their interpretations of classic works for over 25 years, announces its 2017-18 Season ---

World Premiere of TREVOR the musical

Set in 1981, Trevor, a 13-year-old boy with a vibrant imagination goes on a journey of self-discovery.

Directed by Marc Bruni with book and lyrics by Dan Collins.

August 9th - September 17th, 2017

QUIXOTE: ON THE CONQUEST OF SELF

A creative interpretation on the novel by Miguel de Cervantes, it takes the audience on journey of time periods, universes, and parallel realities. It aims to celebrate the joys of great literature.

September 27th - December 17th, 2017

THE IMPORTANCE OF BEING EARNEST

The Oscar Wilde comedy will be directed by Michael Halberstam. It follows two bachelors who live a double life and decide to settle down when they meet two proper young women. They must convince Lady Bracknell that they will make suitable husbands.

November 8th - December 23rd, 2017

A MOON FOR THE MISBEGOTTEN

Set in 1920’s rural Connecticut the play focuses on two men who must come up with a plan to save a farm.  Directed by William Brown. It is a moving and powerful exploration of humanity. Featuring James DeVita with additional casting to be announced.

February 7th – March 18th, 2018

BURIED CHILD

On a road trip across the country Vince decides to stop at his grandparents’ house in Illinois only to find out they don’t remember him. The Pulitzer Prize-winning play will be directed by Kimberly Senior.

March 9th – June 10th, 2018

Set of TOMATOM

SMART PEOPLE

The season will close with the Chicago premiere of SMART PEOPLE which will be directed by Hallie Gordon. A doctor, an actress, a phycologist, and a neurobiologist all search for love, success, and identity. This new play explores themes of race and sexual politics.

March 21st – June 10th, 2018

 

All Productions will take place in either the 255-seat Alexandra C. and John D. Nichols Theatre or the 50 to 99-seat Gillian Theatre.
