Welcome to the inaugural installment of Broadway in New York Roundup! I’ll be writing a regular (at least monthly) look at what’s playing on Broadway – with photo and video previews as well as reviews of selected Broadway and off-Broadway shows.  We’ll also be reviewing hotels in New York as well as looking at other attractions in the NYC area - like concerts, art exhibits and special events - to offer ideas for your theatre-going pilgrimages.

Starting off, we have previews of three of Broadway’s newest hits – SPONGEBOB SQUAREPANTS: The Musical, the new revival of ONCE ON THIS ISLAND, and THE BAND’S VISIT. SPONGEBOB and ISLAND both opened in early December and are already hot tickets. Together with THE BAND’S VISIT, which opened in November and is doing Standing Room Only business, the 2017-18 Broadway season is off to a great start.

Looking at some of the musicals from last season that are still popular and going strong, we also have a preview of ANASTASIA, and reviews of A BRONX TALE and WAITRESS. Click on the link below to see the menu of articles, which are listed alphabetically.

Though we don’t have previews or reviews of them yet, Broadway in New York is also sporting some high star wattage in non-musical plays, including Mark Rylance in FARINELLI AND THE KING, Amy Schumer in METEOR SHOWER, and Uma Thurman in THE PARISIAN WOMAN.

Savvy Broadway-goers know that January and February are great times to plan a trip to Broadway, because seats and deals are easier to find. What with winter weather discouraging tourists and locals paying off Christmas credit cards and working on their taxes, there’s not as much demand for seats, so for those who can get away to NYC in January and February, it’s a great time to score some tickets to hit shows or discounts on shows that aren’t selling out.
