Chicago Dance Crash puts a hip hop spin on The Wizard of Oz with their original production The Bricklayers of Oz, conceived and choreographed by Jessica Deahr with original lyrics from rapper Al Tamper, whom Picture this Post spoke with last month.
Bricklayers tells the origin story of the Yellow Brick Road in this prequel to L. Frank Baum’s classic novel. Using the medium of hip hop music and dance, Chicago Dance Crash explains how the Wicked Witch of the East exploited the workers of Oz and how they rebelled. The family-friendly production uses Oz as a backdrop to tackle the adult problems of our turbulent times.
