A spokesperson describes the event as follows:
"...Cornfield Dance is being presented by David Parker and The Bang Group for two performances at the intimate Arts on Site venue in the East Village NYC. Cornfield will perform a program of excerpts from three of the company’s repertory works, material woven together in one uninterrupted evening of whimsical and playful dance, all designed to dispel gloom, uplift spirits, and entertain. This under an hour show, titled Scrambled Stages, draws upon three works she has sized to fit the small space, Small Stages (2013), originally created for performance on a 6’ X 6’ stage, Scrambled Legs, (2023), and The Endless Ladder, premiered in March 2025.
The evening will flow directly from one section/excerpt to the other, sometimes ordered with a cluster of sections from the same piece, sometimes going directly from one dance to a different dance, retaining the original music for each. Cornfield is interested in the character of our modern lives, as we move ever more quickly through scrambled and contrasting experiences, navigating a world that seems to be accelerating our challenges and shifting realities. Cornfield is playing with placing radically different “theater stages” and sounds next to each other, an experience not unlike turning a corner from one NYC block to another, revealing a totally different vibe, sound and world. Unifying these excerpts of different dances strung together is the whimsy and saucy character that exists throughout, embedded in Cornfield’s signature robust and elegant vocabulary, offering an evening replete with humor, exuberance, conflict, passion and tenderness.
The composers for the evening are Andreas Brade for Small Stages, and Jerome Begin for Scrambled Legs and The Endless Ladder. The decor will be colored tape laid out on the floor to demark three 6’ X 6’ stages, where all of the Small Stages material will occur, as the dancers cavort always inside of the taped lines of the miniaturized stage. The other two pieces will occupy the entire space, with the movement occurring over the taped stages, with the exception of the last section choreographed specifically for these performances, when all seven performers dance on one of the small stage at the same time. The costumes will be tops with brightly colored geometric designs worn over solid colored dance shorts coordinated with the color of the tops, creating a delightful palate of color and cheer..."
