Calling all nerds, geeks, and role-play enthusiasts - there is an exciting new podcast out there just for you. The Dungeon Rats, a group of six friends and professional improv actors, have started posting audio episodes of their Dungeons and Dragons campaign sessions. But this isn’t some basement excursion, The Dungeon Rats have amazingly talented audio editors and actors. Sound clips are edited into a seamless story with sound effects. They also write all their own music for the show.

Meet The Dungeon Rats

Part of the magic of classic fantasy game Dungeons and Dragons is character creation and role play. Each player crafts themselves into some creature or character to traverse the world created by the Dungeon Master (DM). In this particular campaign, the listeners follow Belgard the Beheader (Aram Varian), BugFly the Bewitched (Surena Marie), Dare-Ill the Demonic (Alex Collyard), Gilf the Godless (Carlos Luna), and Rhoda the Ruthless (Justine Krueger) as they fight their way through a dungeon that changes itself. Listeners can find detailed and illustrated character sheets on the Dungeon Rats website.

Listener interaction

The Dungeon Rats call on their listeners, whom they call “Guardians,” to send them feedback and suggestions for new obstacles and monsters to keep the players trapped in the Endless Dungeon. The DM takes all of these into account as he writes new scenarios for each episode. They give a small shout out at the beginning of the episode to the “Guardian” who sent in the request, before plunging right into the story. Requests and Ideas can be sent to The Dungeon Rats on The Dungeon Rats website contact page.

Audio Adventure

These insanely talented actors bring this quirky game to life with live comedy and a touch of voice acting. Each character has their own personality and drive. It’s exactly like listening to a dramatized audiobook. The effects are seamless and atmospheric. They neither overshadow the performers nor become consumed by the story, instead the clattering of dice and original scores turn this traditionally nerdy game into an experience that can be enjoyed by anyone with a keen interest in fantasy. You don’t have to know everything about the game to enjoy this podcast, but you do need to have an interest in fantasy games, fandoms, and zany adult comedy. If you aren’t interested in these things, this podcast might not be for you.
