As a Publishing Assistant with a focus on Aggregators/ Wikipedia updates, you will focus on identifying online content aggregators worldwide in the various areas that the magazine covers, that may be appropriate hosts for excerpts of Picture This Post articles (reviews and interviews).  You will also learn the editing system involved in Wikipedia publishing, and create citations of Picture This Post articles, with a priority of correcting misinformation or filling in gaps of coverage in that crowd-sourced repository.

YOU ARE A KEY PART OF THE EDITORIAL TEAM—YOUR FOCUS IS ON WORKING WITH THE EDITOR IN CHIEF TO IDENTIFY APPROPRIATE PARTNERS FOR CONTENT SHARING.

This student volunteer position is designed to immerse you in the processes of online publication. While not listed as an “internship” position, most of our past and current student volunteers concur that the training and educational opportunities in this and other Picture This Post volunteer positions far exceeds that of most internship jobs. The more time you put into this experience the more you will get out of it. Many volunteers take on multiple roles and more responsibilities that give them more to show at the end of their time at Picture This Post – a fat portfolio of published articles among other lists of accomplishments.

Requirements:

- Commitment to fulfill tasks for all Picture This Post staff members—to remain in good standing (estimated time commitment of 30 – 60 minutes/week.) See EXPECTATIONS/REQUIREMENTS ALL STUDENT VOLUNTEERS

--Commitment to study and adhere to the Picture This Post Guidelines for Layouts and Publishing, and other guidelines relevant to your role.

-Minimal time commitment of 10 hours/week--- except during exam and other highly demanding school schedules, which we EXPECT you to prioritize over your volunteer work.

What You Will Do:

-You will learn how to create round up articles that can be used as citations to correct misinformation in public sources—e.g. roundup profiles of theaters in different cities where Picture This Post has editions.

-You will learn the basics of Wikipedia editing and how to correct any missing or misinformation in this crowd-sourced information repository.

-You will work closely with the Editor-in-Chief researching media outlets worldwide that are appropriate content aggregators for sharing Picture This Post content, and creating a knowledgebase of this research available for internal reference by the editorial team.

-You will conduct timely and professional correspondence with these worldwide publications.

-You will use social media to identify best-match content aggregators with whom to share content.

-You will join in shared staff duties outlined in Expectations/Requirements of All Student Volunteers tasks: completing social media posts; keeping up with the writer/editor feedback  system ( a key Picture This Post editor/writer training tool);  joining staff rotations for shared tasks such as sending newsletter opt-in emails and uploading events to the Picture This Post Readers’ Calendar

Note: these miscellaneous tasks take about 30-60 minutes a week.

-You can add on to your Assistant Publisher role with other Picture This Post Jobs—your schedule permitting.  **The top recommendation is to also get training to be a CONTENT CURATOR.

What You Will Learn:

This position is an excellent opportunity for anyone interested in both culture and learning about the global scope of Online Publishing.
