A view of Prague's signature red roofs await trekkers of the Vrtba Garden's multiple layers of Italian-inspired architecture.

An oasis of tranquility and architectural genius, Vrtba Garden feels miles away from the bustling streets of Prague. In actuality, it sits right alongside the tourist hotspot that is Malá Strana. A narrow, easy-to-miss archway wedged between a Trdelník stand and a traditional Czech restaurant represents the garden’s entrance. Duck under another arch - this one straddled by ivy - and you’ve come upon the grounds of the 300-year-old Vrtba Garden.

Vrtba Garden is no stranger to ivy. This archway serves as a sneak peak of what's to come, leading to the garden entrance.
The birds housed near the entryway aren't the only inhabitants of the garden. A cat has found comfort amongst the baroque statues and labyrinthian greenery.
Statues of ancient gods and goddesses cast an auspicious eye on the weaving garden below.
A tight squeeze precedes the final stairway to the garden's highest point.
Even the cat can't help but admire the careful craftsmanship and constant upkeep of Vrtba Garden.
The view provides proof for Prague's nickname, "the City of a Hundred Spires".
While tucked away from the busy streets, Vrtba Garden doesn't manage to escape the lingering glare of Prague Castle.
A closer look at the lead-in archway.
Late afternoon sets in on the meticulously-styled topiary.
The symmetry of Vrtba Garden is unmistakeable, blemished only by the ivy's favoring of the garden's right side.
