A spokesperson says---

“...Augustin Hadelich is one of the greatest violinists of our time. He makes a triumphant return to New World Symphony with his first public performance of Erich Korngold’s Violin Concerto, a towering work that draws from Viennese romanticism and the elegant film scores Korngold wrote in the 30s and 40s.

Max Steiner's 1933 score for King Kong earned him the moniker “The Father of Film Music,” launching a career that would include 3 Academy Awards and 20 nominations. Hear New World Symphony capture the danger, romance and heartbreak of King Kong with an opening theme that still thrills nearly a century after Steiner first made movie magic.

Artistic Director Stéphane Denève closes the evening with Richard Strauss’ Also sprach Zarathustra, the Nietzschean tone poem immortalized by Stanley Kubrick in the opening moments of 2001: A Space Odyssey.

Program
Steiner : Main Theme from King Kong
Korngold : Overture from A Midsummer Night's Dream
