Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater presents a first-ever virtual winter season celebrating six decades of Alvin Ailey’s American  Revelations with nine unique presentations each available for one week online.

A spokesperson for Alvin Ailey American Dance Theaters says, "The holiday season builds upon a tradition of uplifting and uniting audiences while inviting the world to join in the dance with Family Programs, interactive workshops, and a series of BattleTalk conversations, moderated by Artistic Director Robert Battle, with Ailey artists and special guests like Wynton Marsalis, Toshi Reagon, Bryan Stevenson, and Rev. Dr. Eboni Marshall Turman."

Testament

Thursday, December 17 at 7:30 pm ET

This is the world premiere of Testament by Matthew Rushing, in his first season as Associate Artistic Director, in collaboration with company member and Assistant to the Rehearsal Director Clifton Brown, and former company member Yusha-Marie Sorzano. The performance includes  cinematography by former Ailey/Fordham BFA student Preston Miller, and an original score by composer Damien Sneed that weaves together reflections from current dancers. The work aims to be a tribute to Alvin Ailey’s Revelations that follows a community of people turning pain into power and lament into hope. All three choreographers also join together for a discussion about creating this special tribute to what Alvin Ailey Dance Theater describes as a great American dance masterpiece.

Revelations 

Saturday, December 19 at 2:00 pm ET

Revelations will be a family affair in a workshop including excerpts of Wade in the Water and Rocka My Soul in the Bosom of Abraham from Mr. Ailey's  Revelations. Along with the workshop, participants also get to see an Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater performance of Revelations.

Decades of Revelations

Wednesday, December 23 at 7:30 pm ET

Decades of Revelations will culminate the holiday season celebration featuring highlights from Revelations over the last 60 years on film and video —some of which haven’t been seen publicly in decades.

A variety of additional online special programs will span the month of December, including workshops with Ailey Extension where fans can learn Ailey choreography and movement style from former Company Members.
