Auditorium Theatre Hosts Trinity Irish Dance Company Once Again

Back again in Chicago, the Trinity Irish Dance Company performed this same time last year at the Auditorium Theatre (see link to review by dancer/choreaographer Sarah Steam above). For those who went last year, you might see some of the same numbers, but there are a number of world and Chicago premieres ready to astound.

Sometimes we see the essence of traditional Irish dance numbers, like the always classic Johnny, originally performed on The Tonight Show in the 90s. Similarly, A New Dawn draws inspiration from the Milesians migration from Spain to Ireland. It might also might be reminiscent of a traditional Irish dance as the company performs in red costumes and soft shoe of classical Irish dance

New Works Premiered

You’ll feel some rock and roll vibes from a new work An Sorcas as a disco ball pops out from the ceiling and the company all come out in sparkles —each with their own unique and eye-catching jacket reminiscent of a ringmaster’s coat.

Bringing artists together, Home is performed by the band with Artistic Director and dancer, Chelsea Hoy. The six of them slowly come together around a table and show how all artists can find a place of comfort with each other.

A brand new work co-commissioned by the Auditorium Theatre, American Traffic, makes us feel like we’re in the hustle and bustle of the workweek

Accompanying Music

In between the dances, the Trinity house band plays original music. Liz Carroll, who has composed accompanying music for the company before, also makes an appearance. Her fiddle is later joined by house band’s Jake James.

The music, the dancing, the rhythms, and the artistry all come together in each of the company’s works.Trinity Irish Dance Company brings new inspiration to the Irish dance form bringing in different cultural and dance influences. They elevate the form from just an impressive display of technical skills to a performance art.
