Film Maudit 2.0 Festival Presents TERROR FERVOR Film Review — Psychedelic Monsters

A swampy beast with yellow eyes rises from the lake and stretches its arms as it pulls itself through the water. Behind the creature appears to be a watercolor microscopic slide.

Phoebe Parsons' Terror Fervor is a short, animated film following several monsters as they eat hamburgers, smoke, and work out in front of vibrant backdrops. The short film begins with a crack of thunder and a sharp scream before the colorful, animated monsters with five eyes and hands for heads morph and transform into other creatures. Meanwhile the backgrounds change from real landscapes to animals to flora.

The sounds and narration of the transforming monsters create a dreamy atmosphere, entrancing us in the fluid animation and relaxing music. We feel psychedelic as we watch the monsters drip and melt apart to the flowing music.

This film explores animation and music to create a vibrant journey of monsters and nature rather than a story. Terror Fervor is a perfect fit for someone who prioritizes a visually and aurally pleasing experience over a complex plotline.
