A spokesperson describes the event as follows:

“...the exhibition highlights the nineteenth-century French poet Arthur Rimbaud’s impact on David Wojnarowicz. Images in the series were originally produced between 1978 and 1979, and made public through the weekly publication SOHO News in 1982. “For him, like it had been for Rimbaud,” Bessa describes Wojnarowicz, “to be a poet entailed dissolving oneself into the crowd, making his voice the voice of many.”

The photo series draws parallels between political opposition and economic crisis in Rimbaud’s 1870s Paris and Wojnarowicz’s 1970s New York. By connecting their lives and locations across an ocean and a century, the photos consider the emergence of potent ideas among artists navigating aggressive urban transformation..."
