Pretty Reckless Presents DEATH BY ROCK AND ROLL ALBUM Review — Female-Fronted Rock Storytelling

“But on my tombstone when I go

Just put ‘Death by Rock and Roll”

These are the lyrics repeated throughout the opening track Death by Rock and Roll. This singer, Taylor Momsen, sings about different scenarios of people dying. In her case, she insists that  rock and roll will be the way she goes.  Meanwhile, we hear strong guitars and drums behind the lyrics. At times, the instrumentals become the forefront of what we hear instead of the lyrics.

Death by Rock and Roll mixes storytelling,  often emotion-filled, with the rock and roll instrumentals and emotion filled lyrics to create an album that you cannot fully understand or appreciate after one listen. With each subsequent listen, you, like this reviewer, will likely be  able to pick up on different elements that you did not notice before.

The lyrics are the real stars of this album, in this writer’s view.  Death by Rock and Roll is perfect for listeners who are looking for  traditional rock and roll music. This is an album that showcases the strong and loud guitars that encapsulate the genre of rock music. It is also perfect for those who want a  cohesive album from start to finish, telling a story from the first track to the last.

This is Death by Rock and Roll the newest album from rock band The Pretty Reckless. This band brings a new perspective and voice to the rock and roll music scene with the female fronted sound of Taylor Momsen as the vocalist.  We hear strong vocals that have anger laced behind the words, as well as softer vocals that have more of a cry-like sound.

Our ears are also consumed by loud rock and roll guitars. These guitars roar throughout the album, leaving no room for silence. The repetitive guitar lines create a rhythm that keeps the songs moving. When there are moments where it is just the guitars, we especially feel the energy and passion behind the music.

Repetitive and steady drumlines work hand and hand with the guitar to complete the rock and roll sound. Drum beats that sound like a march are heard throughout the album, allowing for a cohesive feel. Similar to the guitars, the drums have their solo moments where our ears are consumed by hard hitting rock drumbeats.

Pretty Reckless Let The Lyrics Tell The Story

Each song encapsulates a story within the lyrics, telling a specific story and with as distinct purpose within the album. By listening closely, you will be able to fully understand the story being told through the music.
