South Asia Institute Presents Khumariyaan

A spokesperson describes the event as follows:

“...Khumariyaan, celebrated Pashtun band from Pakistan, will perform a traditional and modern acoustic folk-fusion concert... The quintet's name translates to "the state of intoxication from music", perfectly capturing the essence of their transcendent sound that has reawakened the live music scene in Peshawar, a city at the crossroads of Khyber Pass linking Pakistan and Afghanistan. The band's mission centers on using native music as a medium of peace to inspire the youth of Pakistan. Their hypnotic performances feature traditional instruments such as the lute-like Pashto rubab and sehtar, as well as the djembe-like zerbaghali, in additional to modern acoustic guitars and vocals. The band is made up of Farhan Bogra (rubab and sehtar), Sparlay Rawail (lead guitar and dhol), Aamer Shafiq (rhythm guitar), Shiraz Khan (percussion), and Obaid Khan (vocals)..."
